The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday warned Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi for using defence forces for political propaganda.

The warning follows his “Modi Ji Ki Sena” remark in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur on April 3.

The Commission asked the BJP leader to be careful in future.

At a public rally, Mr. Naqvi made the statement, following which State poll officials served a notice on him seeking his response. He admitted to have made the comments.

The ECI reminded him of its advisories, asking political parties, their leaders and cadres to desist from using any reference to defence forces in their political campaign or propaganda.

The ECI had pulled up Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the same comment.
