The Election Commission on Wednesday said it was examining a report submitted by the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on “Namo TV”.
“Some clarifications were sought from CEO Delhi on Tuesday regarding pre-certification of political advertisement on ‘Namo TV’ by the media certification and monitoring committee. These clarifications have now been received and are being processed in the Commission,” said the EC spokesperson.
Following complaints by the Opposition parties, the Commission had earlier written to the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, seeking information on the channel. It turned out that the channel did not require mandatory clearance of the Ministry as it fell under the “value added services” category.
Subsequently, the EC wrote to the Delhi CEO to ensure that political contents and advertisements on the channel were pre-certified by the committee and to seek an explanation if it was not done so earlier.
