Senior leadership was keen on alliance after surveys and polls done by both parties indicated that if both they contested separately, the BJP could sweep the polls.

There would be no alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi for the coming Lok Sabha polls, Delhi Congress president Sheila Dikshit said on Tuesday.

Ms. Dikshit’s statement came after she met party president Rahul Gandhi, All India Congress Committee in charge of Delhi P.C. Chacko and other senior leaders to discuss the strategy for the coming polls.

Although the Delhi unit of the Congress was not in favour of a tie-up with the AAP, talks of an alliance came up as, sources said, the senior leadership was keen on an alliance after surveys and polls done by both parties indicated that if both the parties contested separately, the BJP could sweep the Lok Sabha polls.

The Delhi Congress said party workers were against a tie-up and had continued to attack the AAP on its policies and governance.

Delhi Chief Minster Arvind Kejriwal had said he was “tired of asking the Congress for a tie-up”. However, he made no mention of a seat-sharing formula and the AAP on Saturday announced candidates for six out of the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi.
