Candidates of AIADMK, alliance partners file nominations

Ruling party’s Elumalai enters fray from Arni; NJP’s Shanmugam from Vellore

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam nominee, V. Elumalai, and its alliance parties’ nominees, A.C. Shanmugam and A.K. Moorthy, were among those who filed their papers for the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April 18.

The New Justice Party founder-president and former MP A.C. Shanmugam led a procession of party activists belonging to the AIADMK, PMK, and BJP from the old Vellore Corporation building on Anna Road. He garlanded the statue of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai before handing over his nomination papers to District Collector S.A. Raman at the Collectorate on Friday.

While addressing mediapersons, Mr. Shanmugam said MP offices would be opened in all the six assembly segments of Vellore Lok Sabha constituency. He would address problems of the people for two days in each Assembly constituency. Rural computer training centres for youth will also be started to help them to gain skills, he added.

“If voted to power, I would strive to ensure that the all welfare schemes announced by the Union Government reach the rural pockets of Vellore district,” Mr. Shanmugam said. PMK nominee and former Union Minister of State for Railways A.K. Moorthy filed his papers for Arakkonam constituency with the District Revenue Officer J. Partheeban.

D. Das, a resident of Tiruttani and Bahujan Samaj Party candidate, filed his papers for Arakkonam constituency. Mr. Elumalai of AIADMK filed his papers for the Arni constituency at the RDO office and C.N. Annadurai of DMK filed his papers at Tiruvannamalai Collectorate. In all, seven candidates filed their papers for Tiruvannamalai and three candidates for Arni on Friday.

Nomination papers will not be accepted on Saturday and Sunday, according to an Election Commission order, said an official.
