Sidhu had accused Amarinder Singh for denial of Lok Sabha ticket to his wife Navjot Kaur.

Amid strained relation between the two leaders, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Sunday hit out at his cabinet colleague Navjot Singh Sidhu, criticising him for damaging the Congress with his ill-timed comments against the party leadership in the State.

“If he (Sidhu) is was a real Congressmen, he should have chosen a better time to air his grievances instead of just ahead of voting in Punjab,” said Capt. Amarinder.

On the recent controversial and rebellious remarks of Navjot Singh Sidhu, who had a few days back accused the Capt. Amarinder Singh of being responsible for denial of Lok Sabha ticket to his wife, Navjot Kaur, from the Chandigarh seat, Capt. Amarinder, said “Sidhu was harming the party with such irresponsible actions. It was not his election but that of the entire Congress.”

“It was for the high command to decide on any action against Sidhu, but the Congress, as a party, does not tolerate indiscipline,” said the Chief Minister.

Capt. Amarinder said that Navjot Singh Sidhu is ambitious and perhaps wants to be Chief Minister. “I personally did not have any differences against Sidhu, whom I had known since he was a child. Perhaps he (Sidhu) is ambitious and wants to be Chief Minister,” Capt. Amarinder remarked in response to a question.

Congress's senior leader and Health Minister Brahm Mohindra came in support of the Chief Minister and criticized the Navjot Singh Sidhu for his ''untimely outbursts'' against the party leadership terming it as ''sabotage.''

Mr. Mohindra in a statement, said that Mr. Sidhu must realize that he is no longer in BJP, but in the Congress party and where there are multiple forums where he can raise all the issues he wants to, without damaging and sabotaging the party.

Mr. Mohindra added that he along with other cabinet colleagues would be writing to the party high command to restrain Mr. Sidhu from damaging the party further.

Shiromani Akali Dal, meanwhile was quick to take a dig at the Congress party's on the ongoing tussle between its leaders. Former minister and Akali Dal leader Bikram Majithia, said that sensing defeat in just concluded polls in Punjab, a war of words has started between Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu in an attempt to pass on the buck to each other.

“There is complete trust deficit between the two leaders and they are hurling accusation at each other with unprecedented velocity as if they were from different parties,” said Mr. Majithia.

Mr. Majithia said that Capt. Amarinder has sensed that the party has already lost the plot and, hence the blame game has started ahead of the impending defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
