Identification of seats completed

The Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar), led by former Union Minister G.K. Vasan, on Wednesday formally joined the AIADMK-led front for the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

The TMC (Moopanar), which was re-launched in November 2014 after it merged with the Congress in August 2002, will be given one seat. The agreement was signed by AIADMK coordinator and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and party co-coordinator and Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on behalf of the ruling party, and Mr. Vasan on behalf of the TMC (Moopanar).

The PMK has been allotted seven seats, the BJP – five, the DMDK – four, and the Puthiya Tamilagam, the New Justice Party (NJP), the All India N.R. Congress and the TMC (Moopanar), one seat each. This leaves the AIADMK with 20 constituencies in the State. The NJP will also contest on the AIADMK’s ‘Two Leaves’ symbol.

Later in the day, leaders of all the constituents of the front had an hour-long meeting at the AIADMK headquarters and completed the process of identifying constituencies. Mr. Panneerselvam said details of the allocation of seats would be formally announced later.
