Is Aadhaar card a valid identity proof? Poll officials think otherwise. Several booths in Ponnani constituency witnessed arguments between election officials and polling agents over the issue of accepting Aadhaar card for voter identification.
Many voters who truned up with Aadhaar card were denied permission to vote at Booth 5, Munawwarul Islam Secondary Madrasa, Ponnani. Poll officials said Aadhaar card was not among the 12 documents permitted by the Election Commission for voter identification.
The arguments over the Aadhaar interrupted the polling for a brief while here. Central Observer P. Amuda and Returning Officer V. Rajesh reached the polling station and convinced the voters and polling agents that Aadhaar would not be acceptable.

1. Election photo ID card
2. Passport
3. Driving licence
4. Photo-affixed service ID card
5. Photo-affixed bank or post office passbook
6. PAN card
7. NPR Smartcard
8. MGNREGA card
9. Health insurance smartcard, photo-affixed
10. Photo-affixed pension documents
11. Election Commission’s photo voter slip
12. MP and MLA ID card.
