The Bharatiya Janata Party will in all likelihood field cricketer Sreesanth from the Ernakulam Assembly constituency in Kerala. An official announcement is expected in Delhi on Friday, party sources said.

The sources told The Hindu that a meeting of the core committee of the party on Wednesday wanted to field Sreesanth from either Ernakulam or Thripunithura in Ernakulam district. Mr. Sreesanth has expressed his willingness to accept the party’s offer.

The BJP’s State unit has been making an all-out effort to field prominent persons from different realms in certain segments where it hopes to register a win. Malayalam film actor Suresh Gopi is being fielded in Thiruvananthapuram. In a star-studded contest in Pathanapuram in Kollam district, the party has fielded Reghu, aka Bheeman Reghu, against Left Democratic Front candidate K.B. Ganesh Kumar and United Democratic Front nominee Jagadeesh, all film actors.
