The BJP on Friday claimed that it was well on track to prove its majority in the Karnataka Assembly after the Supreme Court mandated a floor test for Saturday . Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar tweeted that the “BJP is ready and confident of winning the trust vote in Karnataka. We will prove our majority on the floor of the House.”
The party refused to comment on just how this majority was to be gained with the Congress and the Janata Dal(S) claiming a majority of 117 members, with two independent candidates H. Nagesh and R. Shankar backing the alliance.
The BJP also dismissed the Congress’ claims of a “moral victory” following the Supreme Court’s orders earlier in the day.
Party spokesperson Sambit Patra said: “Both ‘prayers’ of the Congress to the Supreme Court, to quash the Governor’s decision to invite the BJP to form the government and to invite the Congress-JD(S) coalition instead have been rejected. Yet the Congress is claiming victory, like Rahul Gandhi had claimed ‘moral victory’ after defeat in Gujarat elections.”

Mr. Patra also said the Congress, currently praising the Supreme Court for bipartisanship was practising a ‘selectivism’ in its approach to the Apex Court. “The Congress is today welcoming the Supreme Court order but a few days ago when the Judge Loya verdict came, it was this very Congress, which discredited the Supreme Court, and rushed to bring about an impeachment motion against the Chief Justice of India. They did not hesitate to raise fingers on judges and decisions when it didn’t suit them,” he said.
He said the Congress and Rahul Gandhi should reflect on the latter’s comments in Chattisgarh on Wednesday comparing India’s Supreme Court to that of Pakistan. “Just as you (Congress president Rahul Gandhi) think that comparing you to Bilawal Bhutto is wrong so is this comparison,” he said.
“We welcome the Supreme Court’s order,” he added.
He dismissed leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad’s accusation against that the BJP had abducted Congress MLA Anand Singh in order to win the trust vote.
