In 2013, all three major parties – the Congress BJP, and the JD(S) – had the same median assets (about ₹2.3 crore).
The median candidates for the BJP and the Congress have become significantly richer (three and four times respectively). The Congress has renominated more candidates from among those who contested in 2013, many of whom were elected MLAs and have grown richer in the last five years.
Many of the BJP's candidates did not contest in 2013 and most of them have assets greater than the median BJP candidate in 2013. Here’s a look at how the median wealth of the candidates has grown.
Note: The median is the value that lies at the midpoint of a distribution. In this case, the distribution is the wealth of candidates of each party.
