A man reported to be a BJP party worker was allegedly threatened at gunpoint by a Congress worker in Tirumalashettyhalli, Hosakote.
According to the police, the incident took place on Wednesday afternoon after Ramaiah, who claims affiliation to the BJP, got into an argument with Janardhan, a local Congress leader. Janardhan allegedly asked Ramaiah to shift his party loyalty. When the latter refused, he allegedly fired shots in the air.
Fearing for his life, Ramaiah fled from the spot and lodged a police complaint. Ramaiah, according to the police, was employed as a labourer in Janardhan’s farm.
Police, however, said there is another version of the incident. “Janardhan had sought a gun licence claiming a threat to his life. The licence was issued to him after verification of his claims. He has stated that local BJP leaders had warned his family against supporting the Congress. However, Janardhan has not filed any complaint in this regard,” a senior police officer said.
TS Halli police have registered a case of attempt to murder based on Ramaiah’s complaint.
