With less than two weeks remaining for the Assembly elections, Transport Minister H.M. Revanna, a veteran Congress leader from Ramanagaram district, has brought out his own manifesto for Channapatna segment, from where he is contesting.
The two-time Minister is the first legislator from the Mandya-Ramanagaram region to release a manifesto to attract voters. Mr. Revanna is up against H.D. Kumaraswamy of the JD(S) and C.P. Yogeshwar of the BJP.
Mr. Revanna’s 42-point manifesto focusses on stopping migration of labourers from Channapatna, creating employment opportunities for the empowerment of women and youngsters, improving water and transport facilities at every residential area across the constituency, and implementing effectively the State- and Centre-sponsored schemes.
Rejuvenation of the decades-old State-owned Spun Silk Mills of Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation and bringing Shimsha water from Maddur, in the neighbouring district of Mandya, to Kanva are his main poll promises.
Mr. Revanna has also underlined the importance of optimum utilisation of water resources and repair of the Kanva feeder canals.
Speaking to The Hindu , he promised to establish a 24x7 call centre in the constituency to hear and address the grievances of the public. “I never give false promises. I developed my earlier constituency into a model constituency by introducing abundant schemes. My work shows my commitment,” he said.
According to him, improving the underground drainage system, supplying pure drinking water and implementing schemes are the need of the hour in the constituency.
Free bus pass
He has also made a slew of promises to the poor, including offering free bus passes to female employees of garment units, comprehensive development of the Channapatna toy-making industry, providing social security benefits to the unorganised sector, and establishment of a ‘Mahila Bank’. Graveyards for Dalits in all villages and establishing an employment and training centre at Channapatna are his other promises.
Mr. Revanna claimed that he has toured most of the villages in the constituency. His wife Vatsala Revanna is also working in the field for his victory.
