Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of infiltrating “institutions” and alleged that the Constitution was under a severe attack.
Referring to the events in Karnataka, Mr. Gandhi said, “Today, this country’s Constitution is under attack. You saw that in Karnataka. The MLAs [majority of whom] are on one side and the Governor is on the other side. And you know what the attempt is. A JD(S) leader has said that ₹100 crore is being offered to his MLAs.”
Mr. Gandhi, who is on a two-day tour of Chhattisgarh, addressed party workers in Raipur and held two rallies in Sarguja and Bilaspur district on Thursday.
Referring to the press conference by four senior-most judges of the Supreme Court earlier this year, the Congress president claimed that the judiciary, the media and even the BJP MPs and MLAs were living in an “atmosphere of fear” that usually happens in Pakistan under “dictatorship” and in some African countries ruled by Generals.
“For the first time in the last 70 years, four judges went to the public saying that they are being pressurised and threatened. A murder accused is a president of a national party today. You also saw what happened in judge Loya’s case. The RSS is infiltrating every institution one by one and the aim is to silence India’s voice. The RSS-BJP do not want to give a voice to the poor, they don’t like when Dalit youths dream and they don’t approve of women’s right to stand head to head with men. The BJP’s aim is to crush the voice of poor, women, and farmers and give India’s wealth to a select few people. Only the Congress party can fight against this situation in the country as it is a battle of ideologies,” Mr. Gandhi told Congress workers in Raipur.
