While Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders make whirlwind tours of Himachal Pradesh, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leaders are organising corner meetings and street plays in some of their strongholds. Polit Bureau members Subhashini Ali and Mohammad Salim addressed many meetings in the Theog, Kusumpati and Shimla constituencies.

A triangular fight is going on in the three seats after the CPI(M) candidates, who have a mass base here because of their struggle for farmers, employees and students, entered the fray.

Anti-people policies

Mohammad Salim, Lok Sabha member, addressed a gathering in the Subzi Mandi ground in support of CPI(M) candidate and former Shimla Mayor Sanjay Chauhan. “Both the pro-rich Congress and the BJP have the same policies and outlook on common issues. That is why the rich are becoming richer and the poor are becoming poorer,” he said. The Prime Minister, he said, had promised to give employment to 2 crore people every year but even 2 lakh people could not get jobs. People were suffering from price rise and corruption. They had been burdened by demonetisation and GST which led to further unemployment and closure of small businesses, he said.

Addressing a series of corner rallies in the Kusumpati Assembly segment in support of State Kisan Sabha president Kuldip Singh Tanwar, Ms. Ali said all sections of society, including farmers, workers, women, students, employees and entrepreneurs, were fed up with the policies of the BJP and the Congress.

Some Congress supporters attacked the Left party workers and Kuldip Tanwar.
