Haryana Assembly polls: Congress releases manifesto with special focus on women

Party promises to waive farm loans within 24 hours of forming the government if voted to power.

The Congress party on Friday released its manifesto for the Haryana Assembly elections, promising to waive farm loans within 24 hours of forming the government if voted to power.

The party also promised to give reservations in private firms for local people, besides reservation for women in all State government jobs as well as private institutions and an unemployment allowance to youth.

Congress general secretary in-charge of party affairs in Haryana Ghulam Nabi Azad and Haryana Congress president Kumari Selja while releasing the manifesto here, said the party was committed to honouring all its election promises.

They alleged that the ruling BJP had failed to fulfil its promises made in 2014.

The Congress leaders also said that after five years of misgovernance by the BJP, the situation of the State had become deplorable.

The Congress also promised that the benefits of loan waiver will be provided for landless farmers.

The party also promised to give a compensation of ₹12,000 per acre to farmers on account of crop failure due to drought, natural calamities etc. While promising 33% reservation for women in all State government jobs, the Congress committed to starting separate buses for women operated by women drivers and conductors and to providing free transportation for women in Haryana Roadways.

To tackle the problem of unemployment, the party said an unemployment allowance would be given until employment is secured. Unemployed postgraduates will get ₹10,000 per month and unemployed graduates will get ₹7000 per month.

Also, it will be ensured that 75% jobs are given to the youth of Haryana in private sector industries and establishments.

Scholarships for Dalits

The manifesto added that for development of the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, the party will provide scholarships to students of the Dalit community and will constitute a Scheduled Caste Commission.

Party also said it would ensure that students of Class 10 are given ₹12,000/annum scholarship and students of Class 12 are given ₹15,000 scholarship on an annual basis.
