A day after one of its worst drubbing in poll history, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday was still attempting to piece together the mystery of what went wrong in the Delhi Assembly polls. The Aam Aadmi Party swept the polls leaving the BJP with just three seats in the 70-member Assembly.
A senior BJP leader argued that the party did not have a solid agenda to counter the AAP’s ‘bijli half, paani maaf’ mantra. “We have done many things administratively as the Central Government for the benefit of the people, unfortunately we could not give it a political turn to make it work for the elections,” he said.
Former legislator from Rajinder Nagar R.P. Singh said he had conducted four surveys in his constituency in the month leading to the polls. “There was definitely a spike in favour of the BJP as soon as Kiran Bedi was inducted into the party but this somehow tapered off within three days or so,” he said. “I have brought swings, bathrooms, bharat ghars and community centres to the 21 slum clusters in my constituency over the years. In the previous polls, I won from Kathputhli colony and this time, I lost,” he added.
