It's final, 693 candidates in the fray

A day after nominations came to an end for the Delhi Assembly elections, 693 candidates were deemed valid by the Election Commission here to contest the February 7 polls.

The Election Commission cancelled the nomination of 230 candidates during the scrutiny of papers on Thursday.

Immediate scrutiny revealed that Burari Assembly constituency has 18 candidates in the fray, while Matia Mahal will see a fight between 17 candidates. The reserved seat of Ambedkar Nagar has only four people contesting elections. The last date for withdrawing nominations is Saturday.

Over 900 candidates had filed nominations and 1,404 nominations were filed between January14-21. The number of candidates this year is 272 less than the number of candidates who filed nominations for 2013 polls.”
