The Congress on Monday filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal for his remarks made at an election rally, allegedly instigating people to take bribe.
Addressing a rally at Uttam Nagar on Sunday, Mr. Kejriwal said: “It’s election time. When people both from the BJP and the Congress come offering money, don’t refuse, accept. Some have looted money from 2G, some have looted money from coal scam. Take money from both parties, but vote for the AAP.”
In a complaint to Chief Election Commissioner H.S. Brahma and Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi, Congress secretary K.C. Mittal, who is in-charge of the party’s legal cell, said Mr. Kejriwal had maligned the election process.
“By making such a statement he has deliberately and intentionally instigated the public to take bribe for voting and has thereby abetted the offence of bribery during the electoral process. The language used is also defamatory and casts serious aspersions on the fair conduct of elections. This statement is also in clear violation of the Model Code of Conduct. It is totally derogatory and scandalising,” Mr. Mittal said in his complaint. He requested the EC to take all possible action against Mr. Kejriwal, including criminal action if necessary. This is the second complaint filed against Mr. Kejriwal within a week. The BJP had earlier approached the EC over corruption allegations made by him against its Delhi unit president Satish Upadhyay. The EC on Saturday sent Mr. Kejriwal a show-cause notice.
