Chhattisgarh Assembly elections 2018: Jogi twist, seats to watch out

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi

This election has been touted as a three corner fight, with Ajit Jogi breaking away from Congress and forming Janata Congress Chattisgarh.

JCC and BSP alliance is eyeing 13 seats — eight in the Jangir Champa Lok Sabha constituency and the remaining in the Bilaspur belt.

The seats to watch out for this morning are the eight seats of Jangir Champa Lok Sabha Constituency — Akaltara, Jangir Champa, Sakti, Chandrapur, Jaijaipur, Pamgarh, Bilaigarh and Kasdol. Out of these Congress held only Akaltara and Jangir Champa in 2013. And BSP held Jaijaipur, remaining were with the BJP.

Here Akaltara is a seat to watch out for. Ajit Jogi's daughter-in-law Richa Jogi is fighting from here on a BSP ticket. The Congress's Chunnilal Sahu had won the seat by a margin of 21,000 votes.

Other seats that the alliance could wrest from Congress is Marwahi, a traditional Jogi bastion. The seat was held by Ajit Jogi’s son Amit Jogi, the two were in Congress till then. This time Ajit Jogi himself is contesting from here.
