Exit polls predict BJP win in Gujarat, close contest in Himachal Pradesh

Most exit polls predicted a big mandate for the BJP in Gujarat in the range of 117-148 seats in the 182-member Assembly

Exit polls have predicted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to retain power in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, but may suffer a big jolt from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the civic elections in Delhi. The vote counting will be done on December 8.

In Gujarat, the BJP is projected to secure its seventh consecutive term with the News X-Jan Ki Baat forecasting 117-140 seats for the party, 34 to 51 for the Congress-NCP combine and 6-13 seats for the AAP. According to the Republic TV P-MARQ exit poll, the BJP may bag 128-148 seats, Congress-NCP 30-42 and the AAP may get 2-10 seats, while TV9 Gujarati has predicted 125-130 seats for the BJP, 40-50 for the Congress-NCP and 3-5 for the AAP.

According to Aaj Tak-Axis My India, the BJP may secure 129-151 seats, Congress-NCP 16-30 and AAP 9-21 seats, whereas ABP-CVoter has projected 128-140 seats for the BJP, 31-43 for the Congress-led combine and 3-11 for the AAP; and Times Now-ETG has predicted 139 for the ruling party, 30 for the Congress-NCP and 11 for the AAP.

Going by the exit poll results, the BJP will again form the government in Himachal Pradesh, but it may turn out to be a tight contest. The Republic P-MARQ exit polls predict 34-39 seats for the party, while 28-33 for the Congress and 0-1 for the AAP.

Aaj Tak-Axis My India has projected that the BJP may get 24-34 seats and the Congress 30-40, while Zee News-BARC predicted 35-40 seats for the BJP, 20-25 for the Congress and a maximum possible of three for the AAP. Times Now-ETG states that 34-42 seats may go to the BJP and 24-32 to the Congress. The News X-Jan Ki Baat exit poll puts it as 32-40 for the BJP and 27-34 seats for the Congress.

The India-TV-Matrize poll suggests 35-40 for the BJP and 26-31 for the Congress, while for News 24-Today’s Chanakya it is 33 each for the BJP and the Congress. TV9 Gujarati’s exit poll has declared 33 (plus/minus 7) seats for the BJP and 31 for the Congress.

After 15 years, the BJP may face a major setback with the exit polls predicting a massive victory for the AAP. Times Now-ETG has forecast 146-156 seats for the AAP, compared to 84-94 for the BJP and 6-10 for the Congress, whereas Aaj Tak-Axis My India data suggests that the AAP will get 149-171 seats, BJP 69-91 and the Congress 3-7 seats.

The exit poll done by News X- Jan Ki Baat has projected 159-175 seats for the AAP, 70-92 for the BJP and 4-7 seats for the Congress. For, Zee News-BARC the AAP may secure 134-146 seats, BJP 82-94 and the Congress 8-14.
