When polling for 71 seats was on in Bihar on Wednesday, at three public meetings for the second phase of elections on November 3, Prime Minister Narendra Modi invoked Ram temple construction in Ayodhya and attacked Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and chief minister face of the ‘mahagathbandan’ Tejashwi Yadav by calling him indirectly “jungle raj ka yuvraj [crown prince of of the rule of lawlessness]”.

At a public meeting in Darbhanga, Mr. Modi said, “This is the land of maa Janki [mother Sita] and after decades of struggle, Ram temple construction has started in Ayodhya now… those political people who were earlier asking for dates [of temple construction] too are now applauding the construction”, he said. “BJP ki pehchan hai..jo kehte hai, karte hain [BJP is known to fulfil what it says]”.

At public meetings in Muzaffarpur and Patna, Mr. Modi said, “Beware of this ‘jungle raj ka yuvraj’ as they [RJD] have the copyright of kidnappings. Can anything be expected from the ‘yuvraj’ of ‘jungle raj’?… their track record is there to be evaluated and people of Bihar know about it better than me.”

The RJD’s rule in the State from 1990-2005 has often been dubbed as “jungle raj”.

“People of Bihar are aware about their activities and if they return to power it would be a double whammy for the State during COVID-19 pandemic”, he claimed and asked people to “vote for NDA [National Democratic Alliance] that had brought development to the State and “pulled it out from darkness”.

“Forget about jobs… even private companies providing jobs here will flee from Bihar… extortion calls will be made by those patronised by them if they [RJD] come to power”, Mr. Modi said in an indirect reference to Mr. Tejashwi Yadav’s announcement of giving 10 lakh jobs to youths with his first signature at first Cabinet meeting, if he comes to power.

“They have the habit of commission khori [taking cut money] in every projects. Please take in mind their track record... those who made people’s life hell with crime and corruption. Their motto was paisa hajam, pariyojna khatam [money gobbled, projects end]. People of Bihar have decided to defeat them and vote for the NDA that wants to make Bihar a self-reliant State… to make Bihar free from being a bimaru [sick] State”, he stated.

Steps for farmers, poor

The Prime Minister also listed out the steps taken by the NDA government for farmers and the poor. “₹1 lakh crore has been transferred directly into farmers’ accounts, 40 lakh crore bank accounts were opened for the poor, free LPG gas connection provided and every poor man is getting medical facility up to ₹5 lakh. Even as the pandemic is on, we have ensured free ration for the poor for eight months. Very soon, Bihar too will be among those States where tap water will be available in every household”, he said.

“Developments in Darbhanga district like the opening of the All India Institute of Social Sciences [AIIMS] and the construction of an airport, software park and Ramayan circuit would help people in making connectivity”, he stated He recalled how the Kosi mahasetu project was constructed by the NDA government after a long delay. “Now, through the Kosi mahasetu, a distance of 300 km has been reduced to just 20-22 km and an eight-hour journey cut to just half-an-hour… connectivity will prove beneficial for the State as a whole”.
