A total of 29 FIRs have been filed against different parties in connection for violation of Election Model Code of Conduct ahead of the five-phase Assembly elections in Jharkhand.
BJP accounted for eight FIRs followed by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (6), Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (5), All Jharkhand Students Union (4), Rashtriya Janata Dal (2), Congress (2), Communist Party of India–Marxist (2), Samajwadi Party (1) and an unidentified case, an Election Commission release here on Saturday.
Between October 25 and November 6, a total of 533 matters relating to defacement of walls were detected across ten districts, it said.
The Excise department conducted 322 raids and arrested 145 persons in connection with illicit liquor cases during the period, the release said.
With nomination of one candidate being found valid in scrutiny on Saturday, 212 candidates are now in the fray for the first of the five—phase polling scheduled on November 25 in Jharkhand.
Out of 234 nominations, 22 were rejected on Friday in scrutiny, said the release. — PTI
