Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday advised the people of Assam to be wary of the “false guarantees” of the Congress.

He said this in reference to the “five guarantees” that the Congress has promised in poll-bound Assam. The guarantees, including the nullification of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and ensuring 5 lakh government jobs, were incorporated in the Congress manifesto that party leader Rahul Gandhi released on Saturday.

“The Congress has made false guarantees of providing employment and empowering women when it was in power at the Centre and in Assam. The party can go to any extent to grab power and this is evident from the lies in its manifesto,” the Prime Minister told a crowd near Bokakhat while campaigning for Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president Atul Bora.

The AGP is the bigger of the two regional allies of the BJP.

Mr. Modi also slammed the Congress for failing to provide peace and stability in Assam besides letting the infiltration problem in the State aggravate.

“Congress rule at the Centre and in Assam at the same time meant double neglect, double corruption and double infiltration. But the double engine of NDA government runs together for development,” he said, promising more all-round progress during the next five years.

The “double engine ki sarkar” will win the Assam Assembly elections because the people have decided to have “doorsi baar, BJP Sarkar” (BJP government once again).

The Prime Minister said people of Assam never thought the State would be free of bomb blasts, guns or violence during the Congress rule. “Congress means instability and violence besides lies, confusion and instability,” he added.

The NDA, he claimed, ensured peace and stability in the State.

Mr. Modi also patted the BJP-led Assam government for stopping the poaching of rhinos, putting poachers in jails and freeing Kaziranga National Park of encroachers. “Congress patronised poachers,” he said.
