Over 90,000 applications for registration of new voters received till March 15 are still being verified and the process of their inclusion or rejection will be completed by March 25, District Collector and Election Officer K. Bhaskar has said. On March 25, the last date for nominations, the supplementary list will be published.

A total of 2.56 lakh applications were received online and offline till March 15. With the addition of 1,81,189 voters to the electoral list since January11, 2019, the present number of voters in the district stood at 34,61,217, he said here on Monday. Visakhapatnam registered the highest number of new voters followed by Guntur.

About 80% of the 70,000 applications received in Form 7 for deletion of voters had been rejected, he told reporters here.

Photo identity cards

Lists of newly registered voters were being sent to the vendor agency in Hyerabad for making photo identity cards. Around 1.5 lakh had been distributed and another 1.5 lakh were expected. All the new voters would be issued the cards before elections but not through ‘Mee Seva’ centres. The Electoral Registration Officers concerned would distribute them. Mr. Bhaskar said the old cards that a newly registered voter had could be used for identity purpose at the polling station where the vote was listed.

Poll timings

Mr. Bhaskar said polling would be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in all Assembly constituencies barring Araku and Paderu where the polling would conclude by 4 p.m.

The voting machines and other material would be secured at Paderu and Araku in the night after the polling and would be transported to Visakhapatnam the next morning.
