On the day of issue of the election notification, Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu sought to enthuse party cadres, equating them with Alexander’s army.

Alexander, who was the most successful commander, could conquer the world as every soldier in his army was a great warrior like him, Mr. Naidu said during a teleconference with party leaders, workers and Seva Mitras on Monday. The TDP, likewise, has an army of 65 lakh dedicated soldiers who could make impossible things possible. Rank and file of the party should ensure the victory of the TDP was cast in the stone on Day 1 itself, he asserted.

There had been a drastic decline in the number of people opposing the TDP during the last five years. Intellectuals and neutrals began supporting the the TDP. The party would bag ‘an unexpected majority’ in the elections.

In a sharp attack on YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for his criticism on the TDP, Mr. Naidu said that Mr. Jagan had differences with his paternal uncle Vivekananda Reddy, whose murder had snowballed into a political controversy, he said.

Referring to media reports, the Chief Minister said, “Mr. Jagan threatened Vivekananda to resign as MP, when the later was representing the Kadapa constituency.

He relented only after the intervention of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.”
