Jordan Peterson’s guide to leadership

Jordan Peterson, a clinical psychologist, delves into the psychology of leadership and shares his ideas on the roles and duties of an ideal leader. Leaders, according to him, must be strongly rooted to the ethics or qualities that they want to inculcate in others. He also emphasises on the importance and need for leaders to communicate, and draws the difference between setting an organisation on authoritarian lines and liberal lines. Leaders in an organisation run in an authoritarian manner, would quintessentially force workers to perform with punishment and fear, whereas leaders in the latter would explain the company’s vision and communicate how employees can integrate their vision to move ahead, in unison.

To explain this, the speaker draws attention to Jean Piaget, the development psychologist’s theory on equilibrated state, where everyone participates voluntarily, instead of being forced, as voluntary participation enhances participants’ productivity and sustainability.
