I entered the MIT group of institutions, Pune, and was awestruck to see the huge infrastructure. The sight of students, some with their bags, some with a few books and some without any book brought back fond memories of my college years. As I walked down the campus, my eyes met a giant globe.

The students say that this is a distinctive identity of MIT indicating that the campus will surely take its students to greater heights on the international platform.

Serene moments

This college is situated in a serene part of the spectacular yet giant MIT campus at Kothrud. Started in 2001, MIT COE is now a part of the MIT World Peace University. There are buildings on either side of the road inside the campus, buzzing with activities. A grove of gulmohar trees seems to be the favourite spot of the students. Students seem to be at ease here, thanks to the shade these trees provide, among the concrete structures.

I met a group of final-year students who had lot of thoughts to share about this ‘woodland’. While Mihir Khedkar says that this “cool spot” covered with trees is the ultimate place inside the campus for gossips, discussions, arguments and sometimes even parties, Samruddhi says the location of trees is the greatest advantage to the students. “Teachers don’t visit this place often and so this is an apt place to chill out. The canteen and the coke station nearby add to the attraction quotient,” she says.

There are two canteens which these students frequent. While the smaller one near the coke station serves them chat items and snacks, the bigger one provides wholesome meal. “We can speak freely under the tree. There is no need to watch our tone or actions,” says Paras Katti, sharing his excitement about the place. “Everyone has fond memories of their college life. I will for sure have memories of this 'woodland' lingering on”, he adds.

The discussions that happen here range from academics to movies to fashion. “We are in the final year of college and hardly find time for all this now,” laments Samruddhi. Agreeing with her, Shweta Badhan says this hangout is sure to hold an important place in their memories of college life for the innumerable discussions they had with their friends.
