Art education equips us to deal with changing social dynamics. Moreover, teaching arts-based subjects facilitates comprehensive learning. I am particularly excited about dance as a subject in school. Dance is my passion, and I am fortunate to have discovered my passion outside school. To think that many more people may find their passion for the arts, at school — a place that is usually associated only with academic learning — is truly amazing.
Students will now get a wider variety of subjects to choose from. I believe that striking the right balance between scholastic and co-scholastic activities is important to grow and learn holistically. This initiative would be beneficial, helping students to use this panoramic platform to showcase the budding artists within them.
Skill development is the need of the hour. The demand for a skilled workforce is on the rise. Skills and knowledge are components of a successful education; they complement each other. It is important to inculcate both these components at the school level, where most of the learning happens.
It is imperative to strike a balance between bookish knowledge and extra-curricular activities; to polish academics and sharpen skills in different fields of interest. Most schools are academically oriented, and do not provide enough opportunities to those who show interest in or excel in skill-based disciplines like music, dance and theatre, visual and culinary arts. Compulsory implementation of these subjects will ensure a new experience for some, and discovery of their passion for the others.
