St. George’s University (SGU) in Grenada offers Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees through its Schools of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine in addition to independent and dual graduate degrees in science, public health, and business.

“St. George’s University School of Medicine has developed long-standing relationships with many hospital and clinical centre partners in the U.S., the U.K., and Canada. These trusted connections allow our students to gain a breadth of knowledge with different patient populations in a variety of environments and gain valuable international experience,” says Calum Macpherson, PhD, Vice Provost for International Programme Development, St. George’s University.

“All the programmes are accredited and approved by governing authorities, and SGU is affiliated with educational institutions worldwide, including in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and Ireland.”

Inviting Indian students, he said, “Indian students interested in MD or DVM degrees and studying at Class 10+2*, A-Levels or IB generally can apply for the five-year Doctor of Medicine programme or five-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine programme at SGU.”

“MD students can elect to begin their studies in Grenada or in the U.K. at Northumbria University in Newcastle, providing international students the opportunity to complete up to 50% of their degree in the U.K.”

Bursaries

Macperson said, “For non-U.S. students, SGU offers the International Peace Bursary. Partial bursary is awarded to non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents who demonstrate financial need and can fund the balance of their education beyond the bursary award.

“Other scholarships are Keith B. Taylor Bursary which is a partial bursary awarded to non-US citizens or permanent residents entering the Keith B. Taylor Global Scholars Programme (KBTGSP). It is awarded to international students who exhibit academic excellence, demonstrate financial need, and will return to their home countries as physicians dedicated to the enhancement of medical care systems. These awards are grants-in-aid and do not have to be repaid,” he added.

According to him, Indian students can assimilate in the university with the help of the Indian Cultural Student Association (ICSA), a popular student organisation that endeavours to share the Indian culture with the entire university and country of Grenada, insluding hosting various cultural events.

Commenting on the vision for India he said, “St. George’s University provides Indian students with the opportunity to pursue their first year in M.S Ramaiah College, Bengaluru, before moving on to completing their MD degree internationally, either in Grenada or in the U.K.” Besides, SGU also has affiliations with Mahidol University in Thailand.
