The UK-based Leeds Arts University, earlier known as Leeds College of Art, has launched a new BA (Hons) programme in fashion branding and communication. This programme will commence from September 2018 and will enable learners to become highly skilled, innovative professionals in the exotic fashion branding industry.

The programme explores and translates the medium of fashion into a contextualised branding narrative by delving into the new and evolving theories and practices that underpin fashion branding. This is combined with developing skills in how to creatively position and promote a brand to consumers through a variety of image-making and multi-platform media. This diverse, exciting and dynamic degree will help in exploring creative approaches to fashion branding through communication, emphasising on innovation and original thinking, in-depth knowledge and a diverse skill set by an intensive and stimulating study that amalgamates theory, concepts, and practice.

Emmanuelle Dirix, course leader, said, “The fashion industry requires young and creative minds as it is the most dynamic industry in the world. The traditional marketers are facing problems in dealing with new global consumer demands. In order to specifically cater to the fields of fashion and branding, this course will help to impart techniques that would make individuals capable of analysing various markets and trading companies.”

As an exciting and progressive industry, career opportunities include positions such as fashion branding, brand management, fashion buying, fashion promotion, fashion advertising, PR, creative direction, event management, styling, and visual merchandising. In addition, the application of new technologies is increasingly influencing the industry; students will therefore engage in futurology and creative imagination to predict future ideas while also employing practical skills including projection mapping, augmented reality (AR), mobile technology application design, digital and social media platform communications, to creatively turn these future-facing ideas into reality.

Addressing Indian students in particular, Mr. Dirix suggested, “In order to be successful in the fashion industry, one needs to be curious and passionate about the world, engage with rich ethical understanding, and try to analyse the situation beyond the superficial level of the physical reality.”

Eligibility: Typical offers for class XII (awarded by a recognised Board of Higher Secondary Education) are an overall average score ranging between 70% and 75%. A level and International Baccalaureate grades are also accepted.
