India's batting and bowling performance (in average and economy rate, respectively) was close to the best in the 2019 World Cup. The graphs compare India's performance with the best team's performance in each edition of the World Cup using statistical analysis.
The statistical analysis uses Z-scores to evaluate the Indian team's performance in comparison with other teams. The Z-score captures how exceptional a team's batting average (among other variables) is, when judged against the averages of other teams. It is a measure of how many standard deviations away from the mean score a team's average (or strike rate/economy rate) is. The higher the Z-score, the more impressive the team's record.
Batting comparison
A statistical look using Z-scores shows that India's batting was the best among all teams in 2019 (just as it was in 1987 and 1999). However, its strike rate was significantly poorer than the tournament's best, Engalnd. Among all editions, Australia recorded the best Z-score for batting average in 2007 and Sri Lanka had the best Z-score for batting strike rate in 1996.

Bowling comparison
India's economy rate was among the best in 2019, second only to New Zealand. Its strike rate was lower than New Zealand's. Among all world cups, South Africa registered the best Z-score for economy rate in 1996 and India had the best Z-score for bowling strike rate in 1996.
