Not so brilliant

So, they know everything? Well, then we should ask them what they did to our planet! And, how did global warming happen?

Grown ups like to act like they know everything. But really, they don’t know all that much. Like, when they can’t see what’s so awesome about Fortnite. Or why ‘Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen’ is such a great song.

Grown ups like to say ‘We’re grown ups, we’re older than you are and so we know better’. But I’m not so ready to believe that any more. Take climate change for example. Do you know how many old people think climate change is made up and not a real threat to our future.

The President of the U.S. tweeted this: “In the beautiful Midwest, windchill temperatures are reaching minus 60 degrees, the coldest ever recorded. In coming days, expected to get even colder. People can’t last outside even for minutes. What the hell is going on with Global Warming? Please come back fast, we need you!”

Is he for real? I think the President needs to come and attend one of my Geography classes to understand that climate change and global warming are real things and that if we don’t do something about it, then we aren’t going to have much of a planet left to call home.

Irresponsible behaviour!

You’d think that grown ups who like to talk about how responsible they are would have been just a teensy bit more responsible when it came to the future of the planet. If they’re as smart as they say they are, how come they didn’t see the harm being done to the earth by single use plastics, fossil fuels, deforestation and… okay the list is too long to fit into this box. They just sat back and watched it all happen, and now it’s up to us ‘irresponsible’ kids to fix things.

Which is why it made me do a fist bump in the air when I read about the millions of kids across Europe who walked right out of their classrooms in protest of climate change.

It started when 16-year-old Swedish climate activist, Greta Thunberg , started cutting class every week last year to stage sit-ins outside Sweden’s Parliament.

Inspired by her coolness, students across the U.K. staged a walk out from their schools, colleges and universities to demand that their Government do more to tackle climate change.

A lot of people think these kids should have stayed in their classrooms, and that they’re too young to know about ‘important’ topics like climate change. Well, the same ‘people’ are the ones who have put the planet in the place it’s in. I’m not sure we should listen to them any more.

I wonder if kids in India will stage a protest like this. I’m pretty sure we’ll all be too busy attending Kumon or karate or tuition classes, things that our parents tell us are good for our ‘future’. But, if we don’t do something about climate change right now, I’m not sure there’s going to be much of a future to look forward to.
