J. K. Rowling’ s debut novel follows Potter, a young wizard as he discovers his magical heritage, makes close friends and a few enemies in his first year at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. With the help of his friends, Harry prevents an attempted comeback by the dark wizard Lord Voldemort.

On June 26, 2017 Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone will celebrate its 20th anniversary. As part of the festivity four books, each with a cover displaying the crest of the houses of Hogwarts, will be released. Each cover with its themed cover will tell a unique story. These books are all about flaunting your house pride. Designed by award-winning illustrator Levi Pinfold, the covers will have two unique designs — one for the hardback and the other for paperback, portraying the Hogwarts houses. So, choose your book — Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff!

The British Library, just a stone’s throw from the mythical beginning of the journey to Hogwarts on Platform 9 3/4, has announced it will be marking the 20th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone with an exhibition about JK Rowling’s wizarding world.

Featuring original material from Rowling’s archives, and from the archives of Harry Potter publisher Bloomsbury, along with wizarding books, manuscripts and objects, the exhibition will “take readers on a journey to the heart of the Harry Potter stories”, the British Library says.

Running from October 20, 2017 to February 28, 2018, the exhibition will also look at the history of magic around the world, including manuscripts dating back hundreds of years and featuring medieval descriptions of dragons and griffins, as well as the origins of the philosopher’s stone.

Every day, JK Rowling found her way to a local coffee shop in Edinburgh to write her story.

In 1995, she sent the manuscript to 12 publishers, all of whom rejected it. A year later, she had a stroke of luck.

Bloomsbury accepted it on the advice of Alice Newton — the eight-year-old daughter of one of the bosses. The firm released 500 copies on June 26, 1997 and quickly realised it needed more.

The other Harry Potter novels are:

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
