What do you want?

Yes, that was the topic I decided to conduct a survey on. I had a sample group of 40. Not only was it enjoyable, I also got to go know my neighbourhood, and meet new people. It took me four days to complete the survey and compile the results.

Preferences

The responses I received in answer to my question were varied. From chocolates and ice cream to toys and playing. Some responses were unsurprising, while others were fascinating. I did not expect one of the answers to be so interesting or shocking.

While 37% of the children preferred chocolates, 25% preferred ice cream, 15% preferred toys and 13% preferred playing. What was astonishing was that 10% gave me a choice I had not mentioned...Disneyland. One of my friends actually said, “homework” and another said “studying”. I was amazed as I thought she would choose chocolates, ice cream, toys or anything except studying.

While conducting this poll, I discovered interesting facts about what children my age want.

Even though I am in the same age group, I could not guess their choices.

My friends think that chocolates are yummy and there are many flavours and varieties to choose from.

When it came to ice cream, they said that it is tasty with many flavours to choose from. But, what made it fun was that the ice cream came in cups, cones, sticks and different shaped containers.

My friends also think that toys are big, small, fluffy or hard... but all are nice, colourful and attractive, and there are many to choose from. Among my friends, the boys liked to play with electronic gadgets, guns and blasters whereas the girls preferred soft, cute toys.

Many of my friends love playing indoor games like chess, snakes and ladders, ludo and so on. Others love playing outdoor games like basketball, cricket, football and swimming as it is fun and a good way to exercise the body and calm the mind.

A few of my friends did not choose from the options I gave them and preferred giving me their own choices, and this I think made the poll even more engaging.

I loved this exercise as I got a chance to meet a friend from my old school. It also gave me an opportunity to see what it feels like to be a news reporter.
