Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl

He is one of the most engrossing storytellers of all-time; he has written wonderful books which have captured our attention. He is the creator of smashing stories including Matilda , Charlie and the Chocolate Factory , and The BFG . Who am I talking about? Yes, it’s Roald Dahl!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a fantastic read, and is one of Dahl’s most successful books. The streams and waterfalls of chocolate leave us dumbfounded! But, had I been the author, I would have changed the story...

The twist

The five children arrive at the factory, utterly blissful. Wonka warns them not to touch anything unless they are asked to. They obey the instructions and are disciplined. Willy Wonka then takes them into a room which has all kinds of delicacies spread out and allows them to taste each of them. He then goes out of the room and watches the children through a camera. He is impressed as they haven’t created a mess like others would.

Later, Wonka calls them out and asks them to be seated. He says, “I have an important matter to discuss with you. I am getting older and I cannot manage this factory by myself. I am so overwhelmed with how well-behaved you have been today. I feel that you five can run this factory better than this old man can. So, I would like to give you the factory for a year. You must shock the world.”

The children are speechless. At the end of the day, they rush out of the factory with big smiles, and find their parents. They pass on the happy news on to their parents and receive their blessings.

They then get ready to take charge of the factory. They are active and hard-working and never waste a single minute. By the end of the week, almost 80,00,000 chocolates are sold over the world, and it is the highest number sold in such a short time. Willy Wonka visits them every afternoon in the first few weeks but then, changes it to weekends.

Charlie is the only one who spends all his time working without taking unnecessary breaks. Wonka is aware of this. He has a special liking towards him and spends time with him whenever he gets a chance. He gets to know the conditions at Charlie’s home. Wonka consoles him saying that he would be paid a big amount for his incessant work.

Five months go by. Charlie wants to do something different with the money he has earned and he shares his thoughts with Wonka and the others, who are happy.

The next day they distribute money and a few special chocolates to some of the poverty-stricken families nearby. Wonka and his companions are praised for this.

After the year passes, the parents of the kids arrive to pick them up. They have a huge farewell party, and leave happily.

Wonka asks Charlie to stay back and says, “Anyway, I have to give this factory to someone. I am thinking of giving it to you. You and your family can live here. From tomorrow, you will be the next‘Willy Wonka’. Good luck!”

Charlie rushes to his parents and Grandpa Joe and hugs them. As the new owner, he becomes Charlie ‘of’ the Chocolate Factory.
