November 14 is celebrated as Children’s Day in India. It is a tribute to India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. He advocated education for every child.

November 20, 1956 was celebrated as Children’s Day all over the world. However, with the passing of Nehru, his birth anniversary came to be celebrated as Children’s Day. He loved children and dedicating a day to them was seen as the best way to remember him by.

Jawaharlal Nehru was the son of Motilal Nehru, a prominent lawyer. He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge and the Inner Temple, where he trained to be a barrister.

He was a freedom fighter and when India became independent he became the first Prime Minister. He served as the Prime Minister from 1947 to 1964. He was often called the Architect of India. Children called him Chacha Nehru.

He left behind a legacy of education and development for the children of this country.
