Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has opposed the 51 per cent FDI in multi-brand retail sector.

In a statement here, Chamber senior president S. Rethinavelu expressed concern over the Union Cabinet approval and sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s intervention in the matter.

Allowing huge foreign companies into this sector would harm the country’s food security, and millions of workers would also lose their jobs, he said.
