Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran on Thursday said Tata Neu, the conglomerate’s ambitious digital bet, is based on an open architecture that will permit non-group companies’ offerings as well.

He added that the objective of coming out with super app was to be a ‘trusted’ partner for Indian consumers and meeting their ‘every requirement’ under a common platform.

“Our purpose at Tata Digital is to be a trusted partner for a better life of the Indian consumer. At present there is no solution which is developed with the Indian consumer in mind,” he said, while talking about the philosophy that had gone behind rolling out this app, which was officially introduced on Thursday.

Last week, Tata Digital unveiled the app which had received an ‘overwhelming response from consumers’, the company said.

Company executives said that more than 2.2 million consumers had so far registered to buy goods and services from Tata Group entities whose apps are embedded in the super app.

“Over the last several decades Tata Group has created several consumer platforms but all platforms have been operating in [silos]. With Tata Neu, we have brought everything under one platform,” Mr. Chandrasekaran said.

He said the super app had brought in ‘a lot of synergy’ for the group and had ‘massively expanded’ the value proposition for Indian consumers.

He said with the breadth of possibilities in product commerce, service commerce and financial services, “we believe we will shape Tata Neu to be a one-stop place to meet the demand of indian consumers”.

Stating that the core play book for Tata Neu had come from the idea of “bridgital’, he said soon a number of categories and services including tech innovations such as a artificial intelligence-driven personal assistant for customers would be introduced.

Emphasising that Tata Neu had brought all brands in the group together, making a compelling value for customers, he said the Tata Group had assembled the finest of teams to build the super app that would go into ‘solving problems faced by consumers’.

“We will certainly have strong financial outcomes, including profits and revenues,” he said. In the coming months more Tata companies will join the Tata Neu platform, he added.
