The curtains came down on the four-day Krishi Mela here on Monday.

The seed mela held alongside the main event was a big hit. According to officials of the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Dharwad, which organised the event, seeds worth Rs. 70 lakh were sold.

Some of the farmers who participated in the event booked tractors and purchased light machinery. Five sugarcane crushers, a new invention priced at Rs. 1.65 lakh and capable of crushing nearly 30 tonnes of sugarcane a day, were booked.

Website launched

A Pune-based firm launched the website kisan.com to disseminate information on prevailing rates of foodgrains, climate, availability of seeds and methods of cultivation, among others, through mobile phones.

The mela also provided visitors an opportunity to grab a bite of traditional dishes at the various food stalls.
