Samsung unveils Galaxy Fold in India at ₹1.65 lakh

Pre-bookings for the phone begin on October 4

South Korean electronics giant Samsung on Tuesday unveiled its luxury smartphone Galaxy Fold — that comes with a foldable display — in India at a price tag of ₹1,64,999. Pre-bookings for the phone will open on October 4 while deliveries will begin on October 20.

“Galaxy Fold is our latest luxury smartphone which is going to change how people interact, communicate and experience life. It is also our first foldable smartphone. There are many many firsts in this... the fact that it folds, the kind of hinge that it has, dual battery and six camera system,” Samsung India chief marketing officer and senior vice-president, mobile business, Ranjivjit Singh told The Hindu. The Galaxy Fold will come with a 12GB RAM, 512GB internal storage and 4,380mAh dual battery. It has six cameras – one 10 MP on the front display, three (16MP+12MP+12MP) at the back, and two (10MP+8MP) on the main display. While the front display is 4.6-inch, the main infinity flex display is 7.3-inch.

“...the journey to get here is very interesting because the first prototype for Galaxy Fold was created in Samsung eight years ago. In eight years, a lot of work has gone in before we landed up with this [final product]. So, around 1,000 prototypes and sketches were created and rejected, till we got to this,” Mr. Singh disclosed.

Galaxy Fold customers will have access to a dedicated 24x7 concierge service to address any queries they may have as well as one-year Infinity Flex Display protection.
