SAIL board approves R&D master plan

Seeking to meet the new challenges and give an innovative shape to its major expansion plans, the board of directors of Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) on Monday approved a ‘Master plan for research and development'.

This will facilitate acquisition and development of appropriate technologies.

Aiming to acquire radically new technologies, the plan specifically targets production of cold rolled grain oriented (CRGO) electrical steel, development of alternative iron making technologies, endless strip production, carbon dioxide reduction and sequestration, and optimising land use by designing compact steel plants, the company said in a statement.

The statement further said as per the plan, SAIL will undertake at the corporate level, technology missions and high impact projects targeted at reducing raw material and energy consumption.
