NLC profit up at Rs.1,298 cr

Neyveli Lignite Corporation has reported a marginal growth in net profit in the year ended March 31, 2011, and chalked out a ten-year corporate plan to grow further, according to A. R. Ansari, Chairman and Managing Director.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, he said in 200-11, lignite production registered a rise of 3.6 per cent at 23 million tonnes and power generation 1.27 per cent at 18 billion units.

The CMD said the corporation made a profit, after taxation, too improved by 4.08 per cent to Rs.1,298.33 crore from Rs.1,247.46 crore. Sales turnover dropped to Rs.3,949.08 crore from Rs.4,121.02 crore.

Dividend

The board has recommended a dividend of Rs.2.30 per share for 2010-11, against Rs.2 per share in the previous year.

Mr. Ansari said NLC, which had been awarded Navratna status, has chalked out a 10-year corporate plan. The corporation was planning to achieve a power generation of 10,000 MW from the existing 3,000 MW.

Around 1,800 MW, which is under implementation, would be added within a year period. In addition, the mining capacity would be increased to 70 million tonnes from 30 million tonnes. The company was also looking at making a presence abroad as part of its expansion and diversification schemes
