March 02, 2012 10:05 am | Updated 10:05 am IST - Mumbai

The rupee appreciated by 6 paise to Rs. 49.15 per U.S. dollar in the opening trade on Friday on the Interbank Foreign Exchange on increased foreign capital inflows.

Dealers said higher opening in local equities and gains in other Asian currencies overseas against the U.S. dollar, supported the rupee.

On Thursday, the rupee had lost 20 paise to close at 49.21/22 against the dollar on fresh demand for the U.S. currency from importers and fall in equity markets.
