Rupee weakens by 4 paise against dollar, to six-week low

The rupee today lost 4 paise to trade at a six-week low against the US currency in early trade on increased demand by importers.

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the domestic unit was trading 4 paise lower at 47.15 a dollar.

The rupee had closed 34 paise lower at 47.11/12 against the dollar in the previous session on Monday.

Forex dealers said dollar's gains against other currencies and demand from importers for the US currency weighed on the domestic unit.

Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark index Sensex opened 112 points up to 18,040.17 level in the opening trade today.
