Rupee up 12 paise against US dollar in early trade

The Indian rupee gained 12 paise to Rs 45.33 against the US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on Tuesday, supported by a higher opening in the stock market and weakness of the American currency against other major currencies.

The rupee had depreciated by 7 paise against the US currency to close at a fresh three-week low of Rs. 45.45/46 in the previous session on Monday following fall in equities.

Forex dealers said besides dollar weakness against other Asian currencies and the euro overseas, a higher opening in the stock market supported the rupee sentiment.

Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex moved up by 185 points, or 0.96 per cent to 19,409.12.
