The Indian rupee gained 12 paise to 46.74 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today, supported by an increased inflow of global capital into the firming equity market.

The rupee had closed 17 paise higher at 46.86/87 against the American currency in the previous session.

Forex dealers said that increased foreign fund capital inflows into rising equities provided support to the rupee.

Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex rose by 155.69 points to 17,807.42 points in opening trade today.
