ITC will inaugurate its second super luxury hotel, ITC Royal Bengal, next week. The launch will be done by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This property has come up beside ITC Sonar with the two hotels connected by a walkway. The new hotel has 374 rooms and suites and 82 serviced apartments, according to a sales pitch launch for the property.

ITC Sonar was launched in December 2002 by the then Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. ITC’s hotels portfolio (of owned and managed hotels) comprises about 10,000 keys across four brands, with over 100 properties in over 70 destinations. These cater to various segments from luxury, leisure, heritage hospitality to full service business hotels. The upper scale segments are the main growth drivers for ITC’s hotel business. The new hotel in Kolkata is a part of ITC’s expansion plans and will be followed by WelcomHotels in Amritsar, Chail, Bhubaneswar and Katra. The multi-segment conglomerate is planning to add around 3,000 keys over the next three to five years. .
