Amazon said it is encouraged by the growth it is witnessing in India with its 2015 daily Diwali season sales growing four times from last year, its largest ever.
“We are in the middle of the Diwali season that is going really well. We are encouraged overseeing additions both on the user side and seller side,” Brian Olsavsky, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Amazon said in an investor call on Thursday, post the company’s third quarter earnings.
Mr. Olsavsky declined to share specific investment numbers for India, but shared the growth rates on users and sellers.
In the third quarter of the calendar year 2015, active customers on Amazon.in grew over 230 per cent year-over-year, while number of sellers on its platform increased more than 250 per cent, he added.
Amazon said 90 per cent of Indian sellers are using its logistics and warehousing services.
Amazon said it is adding products at a rate of 40,000 per day in 2015.
“As a result, we’ve tripled our fulfilment capacity year-over-year. So we are very encouraged, and continue to invest there very heavily,” Mr. Olsavsky said.
