Technology giant HP on Tuesday launched its latest convertible notebook, Elite Dragonfly, which weighs less than one kilogram, in India, at a starting price of ₹1,49,990.
“We have redesigned and re-engineered the product to suit what we believe is going to be the next generation of users... much more young, much more mobile and they will have very different needs... they will need computing devices that are light, durable, always connected and secure,” Vickram Bedi, Senior Director, Personal Systems, HP India said.
The 13-inch premium notebook boasts of up to over 24 hours of battery life.
Mr. Bedi noted that currently it is the premium segment which is driving growth for PCs. “In both the consumer segment as well as the enterprise segment, it is the premium devices that are growing faster that the entry level or the mainstream devices.” He added that while consumers – many of whom have used a laptop before, are looking at more advanced features and designs, enterprises are looking at more productivity.
“Top end is growing faster than lower end... If you look at markets like tier 2 and tier 3 markets, people are still coming into IT for the first time, and are probably going for the entry level devices... but a lot of our customers are repeat customers... looking for better features and the design or looking at gaming,” he said.
As per gfk, HP has market share of over 35% in premium segment (above $800), which is estimated to be growing at 50% annually. In comparison, market for the entry level segment has remained almost flat.
