EGoM meet on gas inconclusive

February 24, 2012 11:15 pm | Updated 11:15 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The meeting of Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) on gas remained inconclusive on Friday and decided to maintain status quo on the allocation of gas. It also took note of the continued dip in the output from the KG-D6 block of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL).

The EGoM, headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, decided that no allocation of domestic gas would be made to the captive power plants and non-urea fertilizer units. It did not take a decision on fixing the proportion of fuel supply to non-core sectors such as steel and deciding on the recommendations of the Saumitra Chaudhuri committee report on pooling of gas prices.

The EGoM is understood to have left it to the discretion of the Petroleum Ministry to take a decision on the proposed curb on gas supplies to power producers who are selling electricity at unregulated tariff.

The EGoM was informed that output from the KG-D6 fields had dipped to about 35 mmscmd after touching a peak of 60 mmscmd in March 2010.
